Righteous Encounters: Saving the Gingolds From the Holocaust
with Dr. Gingold
Tuesday, November 24
5:00pm - 7:00pm
Effingham Public Library
Workman RoomHear the moving story of the Gingold family and the courageous men and women known as the Righteous who helped them and many others survive the Holocaust. Registration is required.
Through this family's remarkable journey, you'll learn how ordinary people made extraordinary choices—risking their own safety to shelter, protect, and save Jews during one of history's darkest chapters.
William (Baruch) Gingold was born September 20, 1939, one day before the hospital, (in which he was born in Warsaw, Poland), was bombed and destroyed by Nazi, Germany.
The Gingolds (immediate family) were incarcerated in the Warsaw Ghetto until eventually escaping to the Russian border in January of 1942.
From the Warsaw Ghetto, to the Siberian work camps, to Ellis Island, this won’t be a story you will forget.
His family story is also documented in the book Tunnel, Smuggle, Collect- A Holocaust Boy’s Story by Bill’s nephew, Jeffrey Gingold, and will be available to purchase during the event.
View the traveling Holocaust exhibit "Righteous Among the Nations" created by Yad Vashem from 4:45 p.m. -5:15 p.m.

These individuals, a small non-Jewish minority, mustered extraordinary courage during WWII to uphold human values, and to rescue hunted Jews
with no expectation of remuneration. Rescue took many forms and the Righteous came from different nations, religions and walks of life.
