Sometimes the “secret” to living a fulfilling life is to consistently do the seemingly little and manageable things. One thing you can do is to spend as few as five minutes a day just sitting and focusing on your breath. As your mind wanders, and it will, just gently and non-judgmentally bring your attention back to your breathing. It's amazing how this little exercise can lower the stress and anxiety you may be feeling day-to-day, as well as the way in which it can help you to be more in the moment and more connected to those you love, your work, and your friends. Talk about a more fulfilling life!
Barbara Schuette of Lotus Room Yoga in Effingham will lead the mindfulness meditation session on Thursday, February 9 at 12:00 PM. It will take place in the Library’s Workman Room, which is located in the basement.
According to Effingham Public Library Assistant Director, Alvin Ealy, "Not only has mindfulness reduced my anxiety and had a positive effect on my overall mental health, but it's also been a force multiplier in other areas of my life. When I can think clearly it's much easier to enjoy playing music with friends or to be productive at work. It's been life changing for me."
