If you have ever wanted to learn about your family's or community's history but were unsure of where to begin, the Genealogy Room at the Library can help. You are encouraged to bring questions.
Why do genealogy research? There are many reasons to do so. Perhaps you would like to settle a dispute over a family heirloom, or maybe you would like to know if your great-grandfather was actually at Dunkirk, or maybe you want to see if you are related to Abraham Lincoln.
Whatever the reason, the Genealogy Room at the Effingham Public Library is loaded with information about Effingham County. There are birth and death records, obituaries, city journals, high school yearbooks, gravesite photographs, census and divorce records, land records, family histories, and much more.
This is a free program but space is limited and registration is required. If you have specific questions, bring them with you to this event.
